Morning Gevan

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 at 11:33 AM by CALF (Sharon) Gevan the Highlander

As i drive by the field Gevan is in, i slow my car down to see if i can see her through the gaps in the hedge…Usually she is laid down, if theres no cars behind me i stop, she looks over and if im in the blue car i see her head lift as if she knows its me….I can almost see what she is thinking and within minutes of me shouting “Morning Gevan”  she is on her feet waiting for me to drive around the back.>Such a lovely feeling to see her face

I feel like i have known her forever X

By chance a few years ago i saw this beautiful cow and fell in love with this breed.
Little did i know that a few years later i would go back and save her life

Bless My Golden Girl

Monday, September 23rd, 2013 at 11:32 AM by CALF (Sharon) Gevan the Highlander

Ahhhhh bless my golden girl..
When she saw the car pull in, she got straight up and was almost running to me….
She ate her treats then enjoyed a good brush…I even got a big hug…Just have to be careful as when she turns her head to me her horns are so long they catch me :0)

Feel so sad when i leave her as she stands and watches till i disappear from sight …
One day i will get that dream farm and she will be in my back garden :0)

Giddy Lady Gevan

Wednesday, September 18th, 2013 at 11:31 AM by CALF (Sharon) Gevan the Highlander

Lady Gevan was even more giddier than normal, its so amazing how her personality is coming through, she has gone from a subdued quiet placid older looking cow, to a total fruitcake. They say that animals are like their owners and i guess it could be true, she is morphing into me lol
Today i got her a bale of hay but moved fast as i now know she likes to play with them….I put it on the ground then made my way to the safety of her feeding ring….
This is her “What you doing in there ” face as i jumped into her hay feeder

Then she turned around and rolled and tossed the hay bale in the air with her horns, even rolling about the floor…Such a bundle of fun

Playful Gevan

Sunday, September 15th, 2013 at 11:30 AM by CALF (Sharon) Gevan the Highlander

Just got back from visiting “gevan” i could not get to see her yesterday and i braved the wind and rain today to see her.
On arrival as i pulled the car in to the field i shouted her, i could see her head go straight up looking for me….She was looking the wrong way, towards the road…I shouted again and her head darted towards my direction…Bless her she rushed to the fence and waited for me.
I got her treat bucket and she walked so proud and fast along the fence, you could just feel her happiness and excitement.
I gave her a good brush of which she truly loves, she even stops eating her treats to enjoy the moment.
I decided to top up her hay feeder, and struggled along with a bale of hay, then i could see the look of cheekiness in her face as she made eye contact..
“oh no” i thought and started to stumble along faster trying to get to the feeder before she decided she wanted to play.
To late lol, she was in full swing…head down and running
I could not lift the bale high enough to get it in the feeder and the horns coming in my direction told me drop and jump in the feeder
Gevan stopped instantly and looked at me as if to say “What you doing aren’t you playing”
I jumped back out and pulled the bale apart and put in the feeder, on the last couple of slices she decided she wanted to play and tossed them around on her horns ( by this point im sat back in her feeder ring lol)
She rubbed her face on the floor then did a full body roll like a dog does when he gets a smell he likes
I sat crying with laughing at her, just wished id of had my camera with me.
Every time i jumped back out into the field, she jumped back at me as if it were a game she was playing :0)
She leaned over and licked my hand and i knew she was thanking me :0)
Yes i am aware she is a big cow and could do damage even if she did not mean it and i am aware, but i am as careful as can be and i am thrilled that this girl has a new lease of life and wants to show it
Thank you for all who have supported her and please keep supporting her as we still have a long way to go with her foot care.
Tues we get her field shelter built of which is costing 800.00 plus and thats all her donations money gone with no reserve left to do more work on her feet.
So please keep your support coming as not a penny is wasted.
I will be doing a running total of costs to date so that you the people can see every penny and more of what we raise goes back to the animals.

Gevan she really is so full of character. She has only been with us 3 weeks and i do not get to spend huge amounts of time with her due to working, but the time i do get is total quality and every visit i see more to her lovely fun personality.
I had not seen her for a couple of days, my other half has been doing the checks on her as i have been working from home….I was missing her so made a teatime drive out to see her, this was the day she did the skipping dance with me, she was as excited to see me as i was to see her. :0)
At present Gevan gets treats when i go to see her of which she loves…She gets Course calf which is a cerial based treat but with molasses in, i have now mixed it with a less fattening horse food that is good for hooves  and i was unsure if she would eat it.
LOL….this is her after she had finished the bucket in super fast time…Her way of telling me its all gone…”I NEED MORE” face appeared after she tossed the bucket in the air…
